Clean-up for Mathew Street Wall of Fame
MATHEW Street’s World Capital of Pop Wall of Fame has been repainted for the first time in five years.
City Central BID (Business Improvement District) has now taken over the responsibility from Liverpool council to maintain the Wall of Fame.
As part of the new regime, the brass discs – which each represent the city’s 54 No1 hit records, have also been removed to be polished for the first time since they were installed.
The works are part of a maintenance programme, which has also included resurfacing works to the cobbles in the area, and will soon see the “curtain of light” extended to cover the entire street.
City Central BID, which represents more than 630 businesses in Liverpool city centre, is also investigating introducing new Beatles-themed public art in Mathew Street to further develop the tourism appeal of the world-famous Cavern Quarter.
