Liverpool Pier Head and Albert Dock walkway to open for Bank Holiday weekend

THE riverside walkway connecting the Pier Head with the Albert Dock will be permanently re-opened to the public from today – three months earlier than planned.

The 600-metre path was shut to allow landscaping work to take place on the new Museum of Liverpool, which opens in July.

Today’s re-opening coincides with the start of the Spring on The Waterfront event.

The early opening was agreed after talks between National Museums Liverpool (NML), Liverpool City Council and Albert Dock Tenants Association.

A spokesman for NML said: “We are delighted to re-open this walkway as it’s an important route between Pier Head and Albert Dock. We worked closely with the city council and Albert Dock Tenants Association to make this happen. We hope thousands of people enjoy using the walkway this weekend and for years to come.”

Leader of Liverpool City Council, Joe Anderson, said: “It’s important we do everything we can to make visitors’ experience as enjoyable as possible, and providing this direct route means people will be able to easily make the most of all the attractions on offer and enjoy the walk along our iconic waterfront.”
