A MOTORIST has died after his car collided with a tanker on the Runcorn Bridge.
Cheshire Police said at around 6.15am yesterday morning they were called to a serious road traffic collision on the bridge.
It involved a blue Ford Focus car and an HGV tanker.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “The collision has resulted in one fatality which is the driver of the car.
“The driver of the HGV received minor injuries.”
The bridge was closed in both directions, and Cheshire police advised drivers to avoid the area and find alternative routes as congestion increased.
The bridge remained closed for much of the morning while work to repair damage to the bridge took place and police carried out a collision investigation, re-opening around lunchtime.
