ICONIC Liverpool music venue Eric’s is to re-open its doors after 31 years.
The Mathew Street club, which hosted early gigs from Elvis Costello, Buzzcocks, The Clash, The Stranglers, Joy Division, The Sex Pistols and U2 will be open again by the end of the year.
Owner and managing director John Lynch said: “Eric’s is a part of Liverpool’s musical history. When you look back at the greats that have played here over the years, it seems staggering that it’s been closed for so long. We can’t wait to return it to its former glory. It will all be done as it was.
“We don’t want to open some theme pub version of Eric’s,” said John. “It’s all being recreated in the image of the original, so for anyone who used to go to Eric’s, it will be like stepping back in time.”
Eric’s closed its doors in 1980. Work is now under way to refurbish the venue, while retaining its original features and character. The first bands will play this autumn.
