McCanns 300
KATE and Gerry McCann vowed never to give up on their search for missing daughter Madeleine, as Scotland Yard promised to “bring their expertise” to the hunt.
The couple, who yesterday launched Kate’s book to fund their campaign on what would have been the little girl’s eighth birthday, accused the British authorities of abandoning them in their quest for the three-year-old, who disappeared in May, 2007, from the family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
But last night a Home Office spokesman said Prime Minister David Cameron, Home Secretary Theresa May and Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson agreed to give their assistance, including “the necessary financial support”.
Liverpool-born Mrs McCann said: “We hope that we will find her before the money runs out.“
And her husband added: “I don’t think any parent would ever give up.”
Mrs McCann, whose parents live in Allerton, has received criticism for serialising her book, Madeleine – Our Daughter’s Disappearance and the Continuing Search for Her, with News International.
But she said that every penny will go to Madeleine’s Fund.
