LIVERPOOL John Moores University’s Vice Chancellor Professor Michael Brown was today due to deliver the 100th Roscoe Lecture.
Lord Alton, one-time David Alton, MP for Edge Hill and Mossley Hill, was the founder and presenter of the lectures held in Liverpool.
Speakers over the past 14 years have included ex-director of the BBC Greg Dyke and Cherie Booth QC.
Prof Brown, who stands down as vice chancellor this summer, will examine the future of higher education in his talk at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall entitled “What are Modern Universities Really For?”
The lectures take the name of William Roscoe who lead a campaign to abolish the slave trade in 1807.
