Merseyside police federation ‘loses faith’ in Government

MERSEYSIDE’S rank-and-file police officers said they have no faith left in the Government after the Home Secretary received a stony silence at a union conference.

Theresa May suffered a mauling at the Police Federation conference during chairman Paul McKeever’s speech and her own address was met first with silence, then with anger.

Mrs May told the Bournemouth conference yesterday that despite ordering massive budget cuts, she was backing what she called “the best police force in the world”.

Ian Leyland, Merseyside Police Federation secretary, said: “Right across the country, we are fuming after what was said.

“There was no recognition the cuts will impact on crime and the service we can deliver.”
