Victory parade to mark rebirth of Chester FC

CHESTER will celebrate the rebirth of its football club with a parade around the city tomorrow.

Chester FC manager Neil Young and his players will tour with the trophy clinched in their first season by winning the Evo-Stik First Division North.

The determination of the club and fans, plus help from Cheshire West and Chester Council – owners of the Exacta Stadium – saved the club last year after a High Court winding-up order threatened its extinction.

A vintage open-top bus will take the victory parade from the Bumpers Lane ground through the centre of the city to a civic reception at the Town Hall.

Council leader Mike Jones, a club season-ticket holder, said: “The club has become a true community club – exactly what this authority wanted and will continue to support.

“The fans have backed the club every step of the way and tomorrow’s parade is as much for them to celebrate their own achievements as it is to applaud those of the players.”

The tour begins at 10.15am in Bumpers Lane and continues via Sealand Road, South View Road, Canal Street, Northgate Street, St Werburgh Street, Eastgate Street and back into Northgate Street at 10.40am.

Northgate Street will be closed at its junction with Hunter Street between 10am-11.30 am, preventing vehicles accessing St Werburgh Street, Eastgate Street and St John Street for the duration of the closure.
