SCHOOLS which encourage their pupils to eat healthily are more likely to be rated outstanding by Ofsted.
Twice as many primary schools were given the top marks after taking part in the Food For Life Partnership (FFLP) project than before they started, it found.
The study concludes that linking good-quality school dinners with practical lessons in cooking and food improves the academic performance and behaviour of pupils.
The proportions of children eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day rose after their school took part in the programme.
