University of Liverpool has ‘no plans’ to sell off Carnatic halls of residence in shake-up

THE University of Liverpool insisted its Carnatic halls of residence, in Mossley Hill, are not earmarked for closure – despite confirming there were no plans to refurbish it.

Last year, the Daily Post revealed how the university was considering selling the halls.

But Stephen Dickson, the university’s facilities director, said the campus was still “a viable student community facility”.

He said: “Carnatic will be retained and it is something we will have another look at in 2017, but at the moment it is a viable student community facility.”

The Liverpool branch of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) was among organisations that voiced fears any closure would have a detrimental affect on the local economy.

The University’s historic 18th-century Greenbank House, which was left to the University by the Rathbone family, will also benefit from a £5m investment.

The complete refurbishment will mean it has what Mr Dickson termed “an end use”, such as conferencing or wedding venue.
