Toddler recovering after being hit by bus in Southport

A TODDLER was recovering at home last night after being hit by a bus.

The 17-month-old boy was treated in hospital after the accident in Rufford Road, Crossens, near Southport.

He wandered into the road before being struck by the Arriva bus on Sunday afternoon.

He was rushed to Ormskirk Hospital with face and head injuries but was well enough to return home yesterday.

The incident happened on the corner of Drewitt Crescent and Rufford Road at 5.25pm.

The bus driver stopped and spoke to police at the scene.

Officers sealed the busy road off for almost four hours as they carried out their initial investigations.

Traffic officers were last night continuing to investigate the incident.

A spokesman for bus firm Arriva said: “We wish the young boy a speedy recovery.

“A full investigation is under way.”
