Unilever bosses to be quizzed over pension plan by Wirral South MP
UNILEVER bosses are set to face questions from a Merseyside MP over the company’s plans to axe its final salary pension scheme.
Around three-quarters of the Anglo-Dutch firm’s 7,000 UK staff are in the scheme, thought to include most of the 750 who work in the research and development laboratory in Wirral.
Unilever said the final salary scheme had become increasingly unaffordable and unsustainable.
Wirral South MP Alison McGovern will this week meet Alan Walters, the firm’s vice president of human resources, to question the plan.
She said: “I have asked him to meet me and union officials because I want to know about why these changes are being introduced and what impact they will have on employees.
“I am very concerned about this announcement and I am worried it will disincentivise people from saving for their retirement if pension terms are changed so much.”
