Vasily Petrenko
ENTHUSIASTIC amateur musicians were put through their paces by the city’s superstar conductor Vasily Petrenko.
The diverse 72-strong group saw young and old join together for a one-off performance at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall yesterday.
The Liverpool Philharmonic SuperOrchestra rehearsed all day with Petrenko and was coached by Liverpool Philharmonic musicians in different sections of the orchestra before performing classics by Prokofiev, Elgar and Dvorák.
Petrenko said: “SuperOrchestra is a very popular annual event for us.
“I think it is a great opportunity for enthusiastic amateur musicians and music-lovers to come together and experience playing in a symphony orchestra.
“It is challenging but our musicians are there to help and we all have a lot of fun making music together.”
The 60 singers of SuperSing Jazz, conducted by Pete Churchill, and the 87 singers of SuperSing Classics, conducted by Ian Chesworth, also performed.
