Swimmers take to waters for a shark charity

A GROUP of Mersey conservationists are to swim a mile of Lake Windermere wearing shark fins.

They decided to take part in the Great North Swim in aid of the Shark Trust this weekend along with 10,000 other swimmers. But the Shark Swim group will be easy to pick out as the only ones dressed up like Jaws.

Louise Attwood, 29, said: “My husband, Gavin, and my brother and his wife, got into diving a few years ago and we began to realise that places famous for sharks did not appear to have any there. We just want to do something to highlight that.”

The mother of twin girls, from Meols, Wirral, said: “Most people in the group are not particularly great swimmers.

“It’s just for a bit of a laugh and a good cause.

“We did this last year, getting people roped in, but they cancelled the event because of blue algae.”
