A CAMPAIGN to tighten the laws on crossbows, following an attack on a cat, is winning support.
Family pet Spike was shot through the head with a 12-inch bolt on June 8, surviving only thanks to emergency surgery.
The incident prompted owner Sandra Grogan from Sutton, St Helens, to begin a battle to have the weapons licensed.
Crossbows are legally available for over 18-year-olds and can be bought online for around £100.
St Helens South MP Shaun Woodward has already called for a review of the existing controls.
Now, the plight of the nine-year-old cat has touched the heart of pet lovers across the globe and the campaign has attracted scores of signatures to an online petition.
To get the petition before Parliament, Sandra needs 100,000 people to add their name.
