LORRY drivers are to get their own truck stops on motorways, the Government announced this afternoon.
Until now, such service areas for lorries have not been permitted, but roads minister Mike Penning said policy was being changed.
He added that he was also considering measures to reduce regulation, increase competition and improve the quality of motorway service areas.
Mr Penning said: “I have listened to the views of the haulage industry and know there is strong support for the development of truck stops.”
On motorway service areas generally, Mr Penning said: “Motorway service areas help keep road users safe, so we need to make sure they are providing the best possible service.”
