A FAKE wine scam was exposed after a raid on a city off-licence.
The wine was being sold in used bottles bearing the labels of such well-known brands as Echo Falls, Blossom Hill, Kumala, and Hardy’s.
It is now being analysed to see if it is harmful to people’s health .
One of the bottles recovered by Liverpool Trading Standards officers even had used chewing gum at the bottom of it.
The scam came to light after a bottle of the counterfeit wine was bought from an un-named off-licence in the north of the city.
The shop was raided by trading standards officers, who seized 50 75cl bottles of wine on sale for £5.
Officers from Liverpool Trading Standards Alcohol and Tobacco Unit have since visited more than 100 premises and have warned consumers to be on their guard.
