Kim Herforth Nielsen
THE Danish architect who designed Liverpool’s new museum last night revealed his pride in the waterfront landmark.
Kim Herforth Nielsen and his company, 3XN, won the commission to create the £72m museum in 2004.
The firm was fired by National Museums Liverpool four years ago, and in May it was revealed NML had started legal proceedings.
Mr Nielsen declined to be drawn on the legal wranglings surrounding the project, describing them as “unfortunate”.
But, speaking as he stood in front of the museum at the Pier Head, he said: “The building has come up now and it’s here, and in two years everybody will just be talking about the building as it is, and that’s the important thing.
“It will be here for hundreds of years. I’m really happy. When I’m standing here looking at it, I think – this is fantastic. I’m in love with my own building! Seeing it from here, I’m so satisfied. This is one of my most important buildings and it’s very close to the heart.”
