Clatterbridge hospital to take day cases only, under new plans

CLATTERBRIDGE hospital on Wirral will be downgraded under plans revealed today to take day cases only.

Wirral Hospital Trust has made the final decision about its Clatterbridge site, after consulting staff and members of the public.

The process proved controversial, with nurses criticising the plans, saying they will affect patient care.

But the trust amended its plans to keep some areas of expertise at Clatterbridge.

It will become a day case hospital, but dermatology will remain at the site, as well as a unit for for stroke and neuro-rehabilitation services and the breast clinic as a purpose-built unit.

Chief executive Len Richards said: “These variations will further improve the benefits to our patients.”
