A LIVERPOOL council investigation has been launched into how its entire investigating how the council’s entire computer system went down.
The network crashed after a power failure on Wednesday lunchtime meaning thousands of staff were unable to work.
Some were even sent home while others remained to staff priority phone lines.
This included the Careline service for vulnerable children and adults.
But workers warned the public they could only handle their calls if they were “urgent”.
This was because many phone lines, particularly at the Municipal Building on Dale Street, were also affected.
A back-up system also failed, prompting the evacuation of Municipal Buildings at one point.
The crash comes just a week after the council agreed to extend its £70m-a-year contract for IT provision with BT through the Liverpool Direct Ltd (LDL) joint venture.
