The War Widows Association hold 40th anniversary ceremony at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral

A SERVICE was held at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral to mark the 40th anniversary of the War Widows Association (WWA).

More than 70 people took part in the celebration led by Reverend Geoffrey Davis, who commended the hard work of its founders and remembered their loved ones lost to war.

Kathleen Woodside, 91, a founding member of the WWA, said: “The group has grown so much over the years and its progress is outstanding. I am very proud to still be a part of it.”

Mrs Woodside said the group remains relevant due to ongoing conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan involving British troops.

A wreath of poppies and chrysanthemums was layed as a mark of respect.
