AN ALL-DIGITAL cinema, due to open in Wirral later this year, could also become a unique classroom for local schools.
The Light Cinema, in New Brighton’s Neptune scheme, has been selected as the first UK cinema to showcase educational film programmes which have been a huge success across the globe.
Cinema Plus provides a so-called “edutainment” package to students from four to 16 years old, through its partnership with Cinema Park Network, specialists in educational films.
State-of-the-art technology is used to turn the cinema into an educational tool, with the package including 3-D film, music, sound and interactive experiences.
Mike Thomson, managing director of Cinema Plus, which has secured the UK franchise of Cinema Park, said: “This is a unique partnership and we are delighted to be the first to offer these ‘edutainment’ packages to schools in the Wirral, Merseyside and the North West from The Light Cinema in New Brighton.
“The educational films have been created on a range of subjects including space, the human body, wildlife, energy, the environment and the planet.
“In addition to this, we will also be offering a range of life-improving programmes for older students on subjects such as drugs and alcohol.”
