A YOUNG city engineer died after a fall from a mountain in the French Alps.
David Evans, 24, formerly a pupil of the Bluecoat School, in Wavertree, plunged hundreds of metres with university friend James Brownhill, 22, from Sheffield.
The Daily Post understands the pair were tackling a peak known as the Aiguille du Midi, close to the well-known mountain town and ski resort of Chamonix, when tragedy struck. Following the accident on July 1, tributes have been made by those who taught the promising young man who was engaged to be married.
Debbie Silcock, headteacher at the Bluecoat, said: “It is so sad that a talented and generous young man has had his life cut short by a tragic accident. Our hearts and sympathy go out to David’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”
David attended the school between 1998 and 2005. Staff remembered him as a “quiet and happy” student, who was well-liked by his classmates and teachers, and a keen sportsman, taking part in cross country, athletics and football.
David’s funeral will take place at St James’ Methodist Church, Woolton, at 10am tomorrow and his family have asked for donations to the Chamonix Mountain Rescue in lieu of flowers.
