Classic car convoy marks 50th anniversary of the Runcorn Bridge
A CONVOY of cars crossed the Runcorn Bridge to mark its 50th anniversary.
Around 200 vintage vehicles, led by the mayoral car, passed over the bridge yesterday in a celebratory procession from Heath Park, Runcorn to Victoria Park in Widnes.
The vehicles remained on display at the park for an afternoon of anniversary celebrations, including a Red Devils parachute display.
The Runcorn Bridge – official title the Silver Jubilee Bridge – was built as a replacement for the 1901 Transporter Bridge.
Halton Council leader Rob Polhill said: “This unique procession celebrated 50 years of the iconic link that unites our two towns.”
