Former editor of Daily Post to retire after more than 40 years in the regional media

A FORMER editor of the Daily Post is to retire after more than 40 years’ service to the regional media.

John Griffith, 62, who was born in North Wales, began his career at Stewart's News Agency in his home town of Rhyl, before moving to The Shropshire Star as a reporter.

A graduate of Keele University, he joined the South Wales Echo as Features Editor and was soon promoted to deputy editor of its stablemate title, The Journal in Newcastle.

His next move took him to Liverpool as editor of The Daily Post which then encompassed both the Welsh and English editions of the paper.

Two years later, he took over from Chris Oakley as editor of the Daily Post’s sister paper, the Liverpool Echo, before moving into general management as Managing Director of the Huddersfield Examiner.

He went on to serve as MD of Trinity Mirror's operations in Coventry, Chester and North Wales, and had a stint as Acting MD of the company's North West region, based in Liverpool.

He retires at the end of this week as Managing Director Birmingham, Trinity Mirror Midlands.

Mr Griffith, a lifelong Evertonian, said: ''I have loved my time with Trinity Mirror but the time has come to hand the baton on to someone else.”
