Liverpool Law Society meets with councillors over legal aid cuts

SENIOR members of Liverpool Law Society (LLS) met with councillors from across the region to discuss legal aid cuts.

The councillors, who were from Liverpool, Widnes, Halton and Knowsley, met with LLS members to discuss a number of issues relevant to both groups at the open forum meeting.

Cuts to legal aid and the impact this will have on councils and the people that councillors represent within the North West was a significant discussion point which took up most of the meeting.

Councillors asked for more information on the cuts and the “knock-on” effect they would have on their own workloads.

Also discussed was the impact court closures are having on the poorest and most deprived members of society.

Councillors said they would be discussing the issues raised with their council officers and fellow councillors.

Further meetings between councillors and LLS members are planned for the future.
