Ex-Brookside actor becomes charity champion

FORMER Brookside actor Vince Earl has become the patron of a Merseyside organ charity after a near-death experience.

The popular Merseysider, who played Ron Dixon on the Channel 4 soap, was left critically ill last year after he was struck by Goodpasture’s syndrome.

The rare condition led to antibodies attacking the kidneys and lungs.

He ended up in intensive care at Arrowe Park hospital, Wirral.

Mr Earl said: “Without the medics I would not be here.”

He attended the Royal hospital yesterday to give £8,500 to Mersey Kidney Research.
