ONE of the masterminds behind the 3D Son et Lumiere show at the Pier Head this weekend said spectators could look forward to a stunning audio-visual display.

The projection has been put together by the Czech Republic-based artists The Macula, who have already won international acclaim for productions in their native Prague and in Dubai, but have never worked in the UK before.

They have devised two shows for the free On the Waterfront weekend, which starts tomorrow.

To celebrate the centenary of the Liver Building and the opening of the new Museum of Liverpool the artists have put together an audio-visual projection for each building.

They use a technique called video mapping - this involves making the architecture of the building an integral part of the display, rather than a mere backdrop.

Martin Posta, who works for The Macula, said: “The Liverpool challenge is one of the most important events for The Macula team in 2011. The On The Waterfront event should be the place where modern architectural mapping meets Liverpool’s history and its contemporaneousness. In our conception, the creative approach to the projection should come from the historical differences of the buildings.
