THIS year’s Liverpool Food and Drink Festival Awards will be held in association with the Liverpool Daily Post.

The awards will be the culmination of a week-long food and drink festival, which starts in Sefton Park on September 3 and 4.

They will allow readers to celebrate the very best restaurants, bars, producers and hotels around the city – and the Daily Post will be reporting on every stage.

Liverpool Daily Post Editor Mark Thomas said: “We are delighted to become the media partner for the Liverpool Food and Drink Festival awards. The quality of the restaurant industry in the Liverpool city region has improved beyond recognition in recent years, and we have always tried to reflect this in our coverage.

“Restaurants are an important part of the cultural lifeblood of the city, and a great barometer for the renaissance the city has undergone. We are pleased to be able to play a part in celebrating excellence in this important area.”

All of the 11 category winners will be voted for by the public.

Denise Harris, Managing Director of festival organisers SK Events, said: “We are delighted to be holding these awards in association with the Daily Post, as it highlights the calibre of this year’s event. The newspaper has always been a first-class destination for news and features for the restaurants, bars, hotels and producers taking part in the event and the platforms within it, such as Menu, have continued to support the work that they do in this city.

“This partnership allows us to reinforce the message that this festival is a great way of getting people, both young and old, involved with culinary delights and to really enjoy good food and drink.”

The ceremony, on September 12, will celebrate the city’s culinary talent at Camp & Furnace, on Greenland Street. Guests will dine on a luxurious picnic-themed three course dinner from Rhubarb & Custard catering. The entertainment will be provided by Liverpool soul band The Christians.

Categories for the 2011 awards include Liverpool’s Favourite Producer, Favourite Independent Cafe/Coffee Shop, Liverpool’s Favourite Restaurant and Liverpool’s Favourite Bar or Pub.

Ms Harris added: “This year we have decided to add a number of new categories to the awards including Best Producer, as the service they provide to the city’s eateries is invaluable. We wanted to reinforce the message of ‘field to fork’ and to highlight the fact that most of the restaurants in this city are now choosing to use a significant amount of local produce. Not only does this support the local economy, but it also brings with it an abundance of fresh and healthy ingredients to the foodie community throughout Liverpool.”
