Liverpool FC officials pay respects at Oslo Cathedral in memory of Norway terrorist attacks
LIVERPOOL FC managing director Ian Ayre laid flowers outside Oslo Cathedral in memory of those killed in the Norway terrorist attacks.
Mr Ayre visited the huge shrine in the capital to pay his respects ahead of the club’s friendly game against Valerenga last night.
He likened the way Norwegians unified after the attacks to the way the city of Liverpool responded after the Hillsborough disaster in 1989.
Mr Ayre said: “Coming here to see this is very moving but it is great to see all the people coming together. That was what happened back in our city in 1989.
“These flowers are from everyone at the club and everyone in the city, both Liverpudlians and Evertonians. One thing we learned in 1989 is that you need to all be together at these times.”
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish said: “If they can get a wee bit of comfort from seeing the team they support here, then we have done a little bit to help. We have been through some sad times ourselves and any help we can give, I am sure the club will be willing to do so.”
