A MERSEYSIDE hospital will remain out of bounds for visitors for at least another couple of days, after an outbreak of the vomiting bug norovirus.
Temporary restrictions were imposed at Arrowe Park Hospital, in Wirral, as a “precaution” infected patients were admitted from nursing homes.
Two wards were affected by the virus, which can cause sickness and diarrhoea.
The ban on visitors to the main hospital buildings is set to remain in place until a review takes place tomorrow morning.
A review was undertaken yesterday after an initial decision to restrict visiting was made last week.
Tina Long, director of nursing and midwifery, said: “Unfortunately, norovirus is still prevalent in the community.
“To completely eradicate it in the hospital and prevent any recurrence, we have taken the decision to extend the temporary restriction on visiting.
“Exceptions may be made, at the discretion of the ward managers, in situations in which it is felt appropriate, for example patients who are very poorly or who have been in hospital for a number of days.”
