Judge Henry Globe at Liverpool Crown Court
LIVERPOOL’S most senior judge Henry Globe last night spoke of his pride at serving his home city before his move to the High Court.
The Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Henry Globe, QC, has been appointed to the Queen’s Bench Division after eight years in the most senior legal role in Merseyside and nearly 40 years of legal practice in and around Liverpool.
Judge Globe, 62, who took over the role as Resident Judge of Liverpool in 2003, after taking Silk in 1994, will begin his new position on October 3.
Judge Globe said: “It has been a great privilege to be Liverpool’s senior judge since my appointment as Resident Judge of Liverpool in 2003.
“When the city of Liverpool thereafter appointed me as Honorary Recorder of Liverpool, I became the ninth Recorder since the creation of Liverpool Crown Court in 1956.
“Although my two immediate predecessors, Sir David Clarke and His Honour Bill Wickham, both resided in the Merseyside area, I remain the only one of the nine Recorders to have lived within the city of Liverpool.
“I have regarded it as a great honour to have held the position of Recorder and to have served the city during the past eight years. It was an exciting time for Liverpool and it is with great pride for my fellow citizens that I have been able to participate in the city’s regeneration.”
He added: “When I leave at the beginning of October, it will bring to an end almost 40 years of legal practice in and around the Liverpool courts.
“However, I am looking forward to the challenges which lie ahead in my new role as High Court judge.”
