THE family of the former leader of Cheshire West’s Labour group have said all are welcome to his funeral, to be held later this month.
Cllr Derek Bateman died suddenly at his Ellesmere Port home and his death prompted tributes from national, regional and local political and community leaders.
The funeral is to take place at St Paul’s Church, Chester Road, Childer Thornton, on Tuesday, August 16, at 1.30pm.
It will be followed by burial at the town’s Overpool cemetery, in Rivacre Road, Ellesmere Port.
Cllr Bateman’s family have asked it to be known that all are welcome to attend the service, burial and also refreshments later at the Ellesmere Port Labour Club, in Flat Lane.
The Labour leader, 62, had spent almost 40 years in local politics.
