Pair who incited riots on Facebook jailed for four years

A MAN who issued a call to arms on Facebook for people to riot in Warrington was jailed for four years.

Perry Sutcliffe-Keenan, 22, of Richmond Avenue, Warrington, set up a page on the social networking site called “Warrington Riots” last Wednesday, August 10.

Scores of outraged locals and business owners “inundated” police to report the page, who promptly tracked and arrested the youngster.

Some small businesses closed in fear of attack as a result of the page, Cheshire Police said last night.

Sutcliffe-Keenan pleaded guilty at Chester Crown Court to inciting disorder.

Also jailed for four years was Jordan Blackshaw, 20, of Vale Road, Marston, Northwich, who set up a page called “Smashdown in Northwich Town”.

Elgin Edwards, the Recorder of Chester, thanked police for their swift work and hoped the sentences would act as “a deterrent to others”.

Assistant Chief Constable Phil Thompson said: “If we cast our minds back just a few days to last week and recall the way in which technology was used to spread incitement and bring people together to commit acts of criminality it is easy to understand the four year sentences that were handed down in court today.

“The sentences passed down recognise how technology can be abused to incite criminal activity and sends a strong message to potential troublemakers.”
