Wirral man, 50, charged with the murder of his wife

THE husband of Wirral stab victim Anne Marie Cleary was last night charged with her murder.

Stephen Mark Cleary, 50, of Shakespeare Road, Wallasey, will appear before Wirral magistrates today.

Mrs Cleary, 41, was stabbed to death in her Oarside Drive home in Wallasey just before 2pm on Saturday.

The mother of two children, believed to be aged 13 and 10, died a short time later at Arrowe Park hospital.

Mr Cleary, a private hire taxi driver, was remanded in custody ahead of his court appearance this morning.

It is believed Mrs Cleary was stabbed inside her house but managed to make her way out into the street.

A neighbour tried to resuscitate her until ambulance crews were called.

Her death has stunned neighbours on the quiet suburban tree-lined street, just five minutes away from Wallasey town centre.

Flowers continue to mount on the pavement outside the family home.

Brian Simpson, chief executive of Wirral Partnership Homes, where Mrs Cleary worked as a client liaison manager, described her as a “popular colleague” who would be “greatly missed”.
