Edge Hill University students given option to live in Pontins

PONTIN'S holiday camp in Ainsdale is to be used to Edge Hill University students, after the halls of residence filled up.

Hundreds of teenagers were this week shown around Pontins, in Ainsdale, as a possible new home while studying at Ormskirk’s Edge Hill University.

Rooms are being offered for prices ranging from £70 per week, based on three people sharing a two-bedroom chalet, all the way up to £130 for the privilege of living alone in a one-bedroom apartment.

An on-site swimming pool, supermarket, and 25-minute commute to Ormskirk are among the offered attractions.

But having their own nightclub, games arcade and easy access to the sand dunes may prove to be just as much of a draw. When contacted by the Daily Post, Edge Hill confirmed they had staff showing students around Pontins, but that any contract was with the resort, so they were unable to make any comment.

They added that some students were looking at living in Liverpool city centre accommodation run by Unite.

Edge Hill has 8,140 places on campus with a university population of 25,000.

Pontins, which was taken over by Britannia Hotels in a reported £20m deal earlier this year, will be trying to get students to occupy the camp during winter months, while still catering for summer tourists.
