Creamfields 50,000 enjoy a dance spectacular - despite the mud (GALLERY)

IT MAY have descended into a mudbath, but the 50,000 revellers who packed into Creamfields on Saturday and yesterday weren’t going to let it spoil their party.

The annual dance celebration, now established at Daresbury, near Warrington, was ankle-deep in mud thanks to the weekend downpours, but the end of summer vibe shone through.

Major live acts and world-class DJs did not disappoint an eager and enthusiastic crowd which soaked up every decibel.

On Saturday, as the sun set, Calvin Harris’s set – which included a superb Change The Way You Kiss Me – shook the audience at the North Stage.

In demand DJ Tiesto’s performance of Adagio For Strings continued that vein, whipping the crowd into a screaming frenzy.

Fireworks and light shows complemented the beats perfectly.

Toby Lovegrove, 26, from Bootle, said: “Tiesto and Calvin Harris both had it filled out. They got the crowds going and were brilliant.”

Over on the South Stage, the Chemical Brothers were received euphorically, smashing it up with chart blockbusters such as Block Rocking Beats.

Yesterday afternoon, Chicane provided a great vibe on the South Stage with a mix of their new and old hits – Don’t Give It Up proved to be a real crowd pleaser.

Elsewhere, the Swedish House Mafia tent was well attended.

Brogan O’Rouke, 18, from Kirkby, said: “I watched Aleso, who were excellent. My favourite tune was Levels. The atmosphere has been quality.”

Last night, Afrojack wowed the crowd with a selection of dance anthems while superstar DJ David Guetta proved a huge draw with his headlining set on the North Stage.

The crowd also proved to be stars in their own right with a variety of fancy dress costumes including Smurfs and Spiderman, though Wellington boots were the main essential of the weekend.

Last night, tractors were used to pull vehicles out of car parks which had become quagmires of thick, sticky mud.

Cheshire Police had not confirmed the number of arrests at the festival as the Daily Post went to press last night.
