Internationally renowned Beatles artist unveils latest work at the Cavern club

US based Beatles artist Shannon MacDonald, unveils her latest artwork Toppermost of the Popperpost

A GIANT new artwork depicting The Beatles has gone on display at their spiritual home – the Cavern Club.

It was created by American artist Shannon MacDonald, whose work already adorns the Hard Days Night Hotel and who was hailed as “the world’s greatest Beatles artist” by a former Lord Mayor of Liverpool.

Shannon travelled from her home in New Jersey to finish off her latest creation, called Toppermost Of The Poppermost, and see it put on permanent display at the world-famous Mathew Street venue.

The majority of the work was done in the USA, with the final section of canvas completed in Liverpool by Shannon during the Beatles Convention held over last weekend.

Each of the four panels in the giant artwork, which measures 9ft by 8ft, shows an individual Beatle.

It was designed to show each of them in action during their last performance at the Cavern on August 3, 1963.

Shannon’s unusual technique involves using an airbrush and an electric eraser to create a realistic photographic effect, even though the images are painted.

She said: “I wanted to represent what The Beatles looked like in the Cavern days.

“I tried to capture the authenticity of how hot it was in there and how they were sweating up a storm.

“I wanted to come up with something a little bit different and a bit more exciting.
