Liverpool swimmer Stephen Parry describes Irish Sea marathon effort
OLYMPIC medalist Stephen Parry last night described his “graveyard shift” experience swimming the Irish Sea in a marathon fundraising effort.
The charity relay for Cancer Research UK sees five famous names – led by boyband idol Ronan Keating – swim the 56 nautical miles from Holyhead to Dublin.
Allerton-born Parry, 34, did his first swim at around 3.30am yesterday.
He said: “It seemed like it was going to be the graveyard shift but it was so nice.
“Once you get over the cold and the darkness – the pitch black – it is a beautiful environment to be swimming in.
“Your mind starts to play tricks.
“You worry about sharks, or jellyfish surrounding you.”
