A QUARTER of all Merseyside households do not have a single person with a job.
The latest available figures, for 2010, show 129,000 homes are classed as “workless”, with economists warning the number is likely to increase next year once public sector spending cuts bite.
They added current trends suggest women stand to be disproportionately affected, while the number of young people leaving school having passed no exams at all was “horrendous”.
Liverpool once again tops the national worklessness league, at 31.9%, although the figure is down from 2009, when 32.1% of homes had no-one bringing in a wage.
Knowsley and Wirral were the only two boroughs in the region to see an increase in homes without their own income.
