Fantasist caged for impersonating police officer for 10th time in a decade

A FANTASIST who impersonated a police officer for the 10th time, to arrest a man in a Liverpool nightclub, has been jailed.

A top judge said it was clear Steven Buchan, 28, was “unable to differentiate fact from fiction” as he jailed him for 16 months.

Liverpool Crown Court heard over the last decade, “troubled” Buchan, who admitted learning the technical language from television programmes such as The Bill and Road Wars, had repeatedly posed as a policeman, trying to avoid fines and detaining people.

During his most recent scam, a man was held at Liverpool’s St Anne Street police station for about three hours and even strip searched after Buchan “detained” him outside Superstar Boudoir, on Stanley Street, Liverpool.

Buchan, who is from Blackpool, but had been staying with a friend in Everton at the time, admitted perverting the course of justice.

Philip Astbury, defending, said it was clear Buchan had experienced a “deeply troubled and distressing childhood”.
