Liverpool One’s concerns over Wirral international trade centre plan

Peel's International Trade Centre

LIVERPOOL One owner Grosvenor has raised concerns over ambitious plans to build an international trade centre in Wirral.

The ITC proposals in Birkenhead by Peel are due to be heard by Wirral Council’s planning committee next Tuesday.

But a report prepared by planning officers highlights Grosvenor’s fears that the project could compete with their Liverpool One centre.

It says Grosvenor believes the permission being sought by Peel Land Property is “too flexible” and does not “provide sufficient comfort that the proposals would not compete with other developments in the region, including that of Liverpool One”.

The report said, although Grosvenor had not objected to the proposals, the company “states that it is vital that the appropriate controls are put in place to ensure that the proposals bring about the economic development for which they are intended, while not adversely affecting other investment in the region”.

Planners in Wirral have recommended the proposals be approved, with 62 conditions imposed on the scheme.
