Record numbers enjoy heatwave at Chester Zoo

CHESTER Zoo celebrated record visitor numbers for October last weekend, as families made the most of an unexpected heatwave that flooded Merseyside in up to 28 degree sunshine.

More than 20,000 people headed to the zoo after the Daily Post reported on Spectacled Bears munching on frozen watemelon and elephants enjoying cooling showers.

Managing director Barbara Smith said: "Our animals like to make the most of the sunshine and our visitors certainly seemed to enjoy it, too.”
