Snow on Old Hall Street 300
LIVERPOOL council is to undertake a major shake-up of its winter emergency planning, to ensure it is not caught short by the cold snap.
Despite the recent unexpected Indian Summer, the authority wants to be sure there is no repeat of the fiasco two years ago when the city ran out of grit during the “Big Freeze”.
Part of the plan will include relocating grit bins, which the Daily Post’s research has proven are spread disproportionately across the city.
The ward of Woolton, for example, has 20% of the entire stock, with 33 grit bins. See our colour coded map below, to see how many bins are in your area.
But some wards, such as Old Swan, Kensington and Tuebrook, do not have a single grit bin.
The council has already began work on its new “salt dome”, which will house up to 3,000 tonnes of grit.
And the Daily Post has learned that city leaders are waiting on a fleet of “snow blowers” in order to move as much snow as quickly as possible, in case of lower staff numbers if there is bad weather on weekends.
