THE manager of a Merseyside nursing home stole a dying pensioner’s savings – spending the cash on fillet steak and red wine.
Sara Bryers cheated 85-year-old dementia sufferer Dorothy Broadhead out of more than £2,300.
The 28-year-old, who worked at Shandon House care home, in Birkdale, spent the money on lavish meals, cigarettes and clothes – even withdrawing £400 hours after Mrs Broadhead passed away.
Bryers, of Cloisters Green, in Formby, was yesterday jailed for nine months at Liverpool Crown Court, after pleading guilty to two counts of fraud.
Describing her as “not just dishonest but devious,” Judge Brian Lewis said: “It was not a huge amount of money, but it was a persistent course of dishonesty against that poor, sick lady.”
Bryers helped herself to £1,130 between November, 2009, and March, 2010, using the woman’s bank card.
Cash was spent at restaurants, where she dined on paté, fillet steak and red wine.
John Scott, defending, said Bryers had mental health issues and would repay the money.
