A SERIES of medical failings in the run-up to Liverpool paranoid schizophrenic Alan Scott stabbing both his parents to death was exposed last night.
The long-awaited inquest into the killings of Alan and Stella Scott took place yesterday, more than three years since the fatal knifings.
Liverpool Coroner Andre Rebello concluded the NHS blunders in care did not directly cause the death of the 61-year-old and 59-year-old parents at their home in Allerton.
But, in the hearing, the first details emerged of an independent review of Merseycare – the NHS trust responsible for the mentally ill – and its dealing with killer Alan Scott Jnr, 35. It routinely attacked the Trust for its “poor or ineffectual” treatment.
Merseycare said they were “really very, very sorry” for crucial mistakes made in their 14-year care of the 35-year-old.
Alan Jnr’s sisters, Colette and Christine, who have pursued a long campaign against the NHS Trust, rejected the inquest’s verdict.
They told the Daily Post: “We’re angry with what happened, and we’ll always believe what Merseycare did led to the death of our parents.
“But we know this is as far as we can take it. We don’t agree with this decision. A lack of care and low dosage contributed to this tragedy – we will always believe that.”
Merseycare said they had since carried out a wide-ranging review to improve treatment of those suffering with mental health issues.
