War memorial theft case adjourned

THE case against a man accused of being involved in the theft and vandalism of a war memorial in south Wirral has been adjourned.

Michael Coyle, 39, faced charges at Chester Magistrates Court of handling stolen goods following the theft of the World War I memorial in Willaston.

Overnight between Friday and Saturday, July 29 to 30, a metal plaque listing names of fallen war heroes was taken from Christ Church, on Neston Road.

Defence solicitor Chris Hunt told the court his office had only received full documents the day before the hearing and asked that the case be delayed until all further information and evidence had been presented.

Prosecutor Sue Gibson agreed and Mr Coyle, of Mellock Lane, in Little Neston, was released on bail until October 28, on condition he does not enter any scrap metal dealers yard in England and Wales.
