A TEENAGER was killed in a car crash after leaving school for the day, an inquest heard.
Jonathan Brown, known as Jonny to his friends and family, suffered multiple injuries when the car he was a passenger in collided with another vehicle in Heswall, Wirral.
The inquest into his death, which opened yesterday, heard the Ford Fiesta carrying the 17-year-old from Upton, three school pals and his brother Harry clipped a kerb before moving across the carriageway.
It hit a Nissan Micra driven by Diana Chappell, 84, who was with her friend Irene Moss, 82.
Calday Grange Grammar student Jonny died in hospital shortly after the accident just before 4pm on Thursday, October 6. Coroner’s officer Arthur Flower told the hearing at Wallasey Town Hall Jonny and his friends, Mark Bevan, 17, Philip Waring, 17 and Simon Allen, 16, had left the school premises in a black Ford Fiesta motor car.
Mr Flower said Philip Waring was driving, Jonny was sitting in the front passenger seat and their other friends were in the rear of the car.
He continued: “Having seen Jonny’s 12-year-old brother at a nearby bus stop, he was offered a lift home. He got in immediately behind his brother while Simon Allen moved to the middle.
“The vehicle travelled along the A540 in the direction of Heswall. A short distance after the roundabout by the Cottage Loaf, the front nearside wheel clipped a nearside kerb, causing the vehicle to move across the road.
