DAVID CAMERON has promised to attend the opening night of a West End play based on a book by a Merseyside MP – providing his government diary is clear.
The Prime Minister last night hosted a No 10 reception to celebrate the “inspirational efforts” by Wirral West’s Esther McVey.
She masterminded the book “If Chloe Can” to encourage young teenage girls to achieve anything they want, whatever their backgrounds, provided they are prepared “to work and fight for it.”
That book is now being translated into a play to be launched at London’s Lyric Theatre next month.
When asked whether he would be attending, Mr Cameron replied: “I have read the book, which is a start, and I found it brilliant.
“If events allow me, I will do everything I can to attend.”
Despite the news coming through about the death of Colonel Gaddafi, Mr Cameron found time to spend 40 minutes to attend Ms McVey’s big occasion.
She said: “It was fantastic.
“The PM recognises that young girls and women must be encouraged, too.
“We have to show them that it is worth striving to be the best you can be whatever you choose to do.”
And she told Mr Cameron: “Too many young people, as we saw in the summer riots, feel pressurised into joining gangs and the chances are they may end up dead.
“There is so much we can all do to change that and show that there is a better way.”
