Bootle family of Spainsh flood victims Kenneth and Mary Hall wait for bodies to return

THE family of a Merseyside couple who lost their lives during flash flooding in Spain were today waiting on news about when their bodies will be flown back to Britain.

Kenneth and Mary Hall, from Bootle, had been drinking coffee at a market stall cafe when 5ft-high floodwater swept through the resort of Finestrat, near Benidorm, last Friday.

Water surged through the area they were sitting in and their bodies were later recovered from debris of the market.

Lorraine Ward, the partner of the couple’s son, Kenny junior, who is currently in Spain, said: “We are waiting for a call about when Mary and Kenny will be going back to England. We (Lorraine and Kenny jnr) are hoping to get on the same flight with them when they are flown back.

“We don’t know when that is though. We are waiting for the information. We are dealing with a number of people at the moment – the consulate, the insurance company, and about funeral issues.”

The family confirmed the much-loved couple are resting in peace in a Spanish “government building”.

A date for their funeral has not been announced.

Tribute was paid to the authorities that have helped Kenny junior and Lorraine while they have been in the country since Friday.

Ms Ward said: “The hotel we are staying have been really helpful – they have said that we are allowed to stay free of charge for as long as we like. The consulate have also been brilliant.”
